The Struggle With Anxiety
Anxiety has plagued me my entire life. When I was growing up, it was social anxiety that left me frozen and silent. I never participated in any group activities. No sports, extracurricular, nothing. I had very few friends and was picked on by all of the bullies. There were people I knew my entire life that had never heard me speak. I really didn’t even move much. Just made myself as small as I could.
When I became an adult, my social anxiety lessened, although never completely went away. It was replaced, however, by anxiety involving health. My health, my family’s health, the health of the world. That health themed anxiety is what birthed this entire website.
I struggled with anxiety attacks daily. I missed out on social events I would have loved to have attended, landed in the ER over it once and routinely had to pull over on the side of the road while driving due to an attack.
When my son was born, I was lucky enough to get postpartum anxiety. I was terrified something was going to happen to me and he was going to be left without a mother. It’s all I could think about. I couldn’t go to the movies or out to eat and enjoy myself because I was too busy watching the people, the exits and planning escape routes in worse case scenarios in my head. Every loud noise threw my mind straight towards bombs and into a panic attack. I was one big ball of stress 24/7.
The Battle With Anxiety
Anxiety was ruling my life. A daily battle I had to fight. It’s exhausting, distracting and burdensome. I was prescribed some sort of anxiety meds which I only took for about a week. They made me cloudy, unable to create or write. They took away all of my motivation and happiness and didn’t even rid me of my anxiety. Only muted it slightly, where I could still feel it trying to claw itself out.
Thus, my quest to conquer it began. And I’ve currently won my anxiety war. As long as I manage it, and follow the steps below (the ones that help me personally), I can go months without an attack. It’s the most freeing feeling and has probably added years back to my life that the stress has taken away, haha.
If I can do it, so can you.
