The 2nd insight as foretold in the manuscript of The Celestine Prophecy gives us a new way of understanding ourselves in culture and society. It was oddly my favorite insight of the nine, perhaps because of the history explanation (I was a history major in college).
The second insight gives us an understanding of where we came from and how things have developed as they are. It asks us to see history as a whole instead of the individual happenings that we always have. Understanding life through the eyes of our ancestors and what things must have been like for them.
Understanding the Second Insight
The 2nd insight takes us back to a time when everything in life was purely spiritual. From humans point of view, everything in the universe occurred because God or the gods willed it so.
If there was a bad harvest it must mean the gods were angry. If the harvest was good, the gods must be happy. This is how they interpreted everything in life.
Religious leaders translated the will of God / the gods and directed everyone how to live. Everyone knew and understood the purpose of life which to them was a giant test to be passed or failed.
If you passed the test that was life by living by the laws and rules set out by God / the gods and the clergy, you were rewarded in death by spending the rest of eternity in heaven or their equivalent to. Failing the test meant the opposite, spending the rest of time in Hell.
We saw ourselves at the center of the universe, with the sun, stars and planets all revolving around us.
The Shift in History
The 2nd insight goes on to explain how things shifted from this purely spiritual standpoint. We began to notice inconsistencies and hypocrisies in what the religious leaders taught and how they acted. They began to lose our trust.
We started questioning the way of life and the truth that we had always been told. At the same time we began to rebel from the church, we discovered that we were, in fact, not the center of the universe but simply one of many celestial planets orbiting the sun.
Our entire understanding of life, it’s purpose and the workings of the universe fell apart seemingly overnight and we were left unsure of what to do from here.
This was the beginning of a new age. Where we looked to science to explain the world around us. We sent people out to research, learn and study our plane of existence and waited for them to return with facts.
The Preoccupation
The problem with this new, scientific, fact based way of thinking was that it took a really long time to research and learn all of the things there was to explore. We had to find something to do with ourselves while we waited.
So we turned our focus to the preoccupation of material comforts. Life began to be all about gaining more physical objects such as money, stature and luxuries.
By default in focusing on this, we raised the standard of living. The cast systems were destroyed (mostly), poverty lessened, health gained, etc. We made life less about survival and more about thriving with advancements in society, technology and governments. This is where we have been up until now.
The 2nd Insight on the Present
We have, for the most part, achieved what this preoccupation had intended. I know it may not seem like it on the surface, but in comparison to our ancestors, we are living much better and much longer.
Poverty and struggle does, of course, still exist but not in the ways it use to. We’ve succeeded in raising the worlds vibrations enough to where we can move on to a new shift. This is where the 2nd insight brings us. The beginning of this new shift from a purely scientific viewpoint to one that is both scientific and spiritual.
We’re restless. Our souls long for completion and we’re not getting it from our current way of life. We feel in our entire being that something is missing that can’t readily be explained with science and reason. Something bigger is here and we need it to feel whole and complete.
We’re beginning to question more from a different stand point. We’re starting to combine our science with what ancient shamans and spiritual leaders have been teaching throughout time and see the truth in both, intertwined in the physical and nonphysical of this life.
