I had the honor of speaking with Miss Rian Reed on her Reminisce Podcast on the subject of Minimalism recently!
We had the best conversation about minimalism and how it’s more than a lifestyle. Minimalism is a philosophy and concept that starts in the mind. It’s a mindset that stays with you through everything that you think, speak and do and the lifestyle is a byproduct of this mindset.
We discuss how I got started with minimalism, the obstacles presented as a minimalist parent and all of the wonderful repercussions that have become present in my life since I started letting go of clutter.
I hope you enjoy!
Highlights
We inherit the patterns of our ancestors. When these patterns go unchecked, they cause energy stagnation in every aspect of our lives. We have to consciously release the patterns of our parents and grandparents in order to grow and progress in life. Their patterns and habits don’t have to be ours.
Minimalism isn’t just cleaning out your closet. It’s a mindful and conscious mindset that helps the world as much as it helps you.
Consumerism survives from our need to fill a hole within us. We buy the things because they make us feel happy and whole but this wholeness is short lived because we’re placing a band aid over the wound.
Minimalism can be used not only to clean and create space in our homes but also in our minds, bodies and spirits.
Minimalism is a process. Not a destination.
We hold stress and weight in objects and letting them go makes us lighter and freer.
Pack a bag before you leave instead of having a catch all bag. Allow others to practice their responsibilities, you don’t have to compensate for others.
Switching from a mindset of lack to a mindset of abundance.
Recruit help to let go of things if you need it.
Ditch fast fashion for ethical made clothes and it’ll help you save money, time and space as well as gain confidence.
