I had a realization lately that the 7 chakras and Moslow’s hierarchy of needs, or Moslow’s pyramid, have a lot in common. If you’re not familiar with Moslow’s Pyramid, it is a chart of basic human needs.
Like building any structure, you have to secure the base, or bottom of the pyramid, before you can move on to the next level. And so on and so forth until you reach the top. Like stacking blocks.
The chakras also work like this. Being of the metaphysical realm, it’s not as clean cut as working with gravity. You can work on the top levels first if you like (and most prefer to) but it’s really not the most sufficient way of clearing and balancing your 7 chakras since the energy flows from the bottom up.
Energy Flows Up
You can’t put on the roof of a structure until you have a solid foundation underneath it first or it will never properly hold. When looking at these pyramids, we’re always moving from bottom to top.
You move from having your physical needs of survival met into safety into love for self and others, into confidence and lastly, into self actualization which is where you’re fulfilling your dharma, or purpose in life. It’s a state of satisfaction and peace. Ease and flow.
The chakras are this way as well and deeply connected to Moslow’s pyramid. The energy flows upward from the earth and into our root chakra first. It cannot completely move onto the sacral chakra until the needs of the root are met completely.
It can’t flow unobstructed to the solar plexus from there until the sacral chakra is clear. Energy gets choked out at these chakras when they have blocks. Some may continue to flow on but essentially, it’ll shrink and suffocate.
The energy won’t die, but it will stagnate, when it becomes trapped in a damaged and detached chakra. Without clear and proper flow through all of your chakras, you’ll never reach that state of belonging, purposeful, blissful existence we all long for.
Clearing the flow of the 7 chakras
So how do you restore circulation to your chakras? There are tons of ways. Nature and intuition is always on our sides when it comes to becoming our highest selves.
- Meditation
- Reiki
- Crystals
- Food
- Essential oils
- Certain activities
- Color Therapy
- Mantras
It all depends on which chakra you’re working on. I recommend starting with the root and just moving up from there. You can read on how to clear your root chakra here.
If you’re wondering which of your chakras need the most work and which ones only need an oil change, focus on some introspection. Meditate on your current life situations and circumstances.
Ask your body what it needs and take note of problems coming up in your physical and mental being.
Each of the 7 chakras governs specific problems in ourselves and lives. Looking at where your problems are can help you determine which chakras need the most tending to.
For example, money and safety issues are tied to the root chakra, love for self or others is tied to the heart chakra, headaches are attached to the third eye and loneliness to the crown chakra.
Of course there are as many ailments in the mind, body and life as there are people on the planet, so figuring out which chakra your particular problems stem from may be a bit of a process if you’re unfamiliar with the chakra’s jobs.
Luckily, I have some resources and tools for you.
