Throughout human history, the moon has mesmerized us with its celestial dance, its ever-shifting phases mirroring the cyclical nature of life itself. This celestial body has long been associated with our deepest desires, emotions, and intuition, prompting us to seek its guidance in navigating the complexities of existence. In recent times, the practice of manifesting with the moon has gained traction, merging the power of intention with the lunar cycles to bring our dreams to fruition.
Manifesting with the moon is a practice that harnesses the lunar cycles to amplify the power of intention and attract desired outcomes into our lives. Each phase of the moon, from the new moon’s potent beginnings to the full moon’s culmination, offers a unique energetic vibration that can be harnessed for specific goals.
By aligning our intentions with these lunar energies, we can tap into a powerful force that can propel our manifestations forward. When we become aware of the cycles of life, we find the natural ups and downs easier to flow with. Life is not constant in any way. Everything’s always changing. Cycles of growth and decay are all around us at all times.
- The changing of the seasons.
- The circle of life.
- The rotation of the planets.
- Varying degrees of prosperity and despair.
The moon’s cyclical nature serves as a constant reminder of the inherent rhythm of life. Just as the moon waxes and wanes, so too do our desires, energies, and states of being. Understanding and aligning ourselves with these cycles allows us to flow with the natural ebb and flow of life, instead of struggling against it.
Literally everything in the natural world is cyclical. It’s all normal. When you fully realize this, that life is suppose to have varying degrees of contrast, it makes the hard times easier to flow with and the good times more enjoyable.
Give it a minute and let it be bad. It’ll all be over in a little bit.
As part of the universe ourselves, we can sync up our bodies, our actions, the vary way we live our lives to the cycles of nature. Riding the energy flow that’s already taking place around us makes our ride smoother.
More flow, less resistance.
The moon gives us 8 phases to work with. Her energy grows and wanes throughout the month. Knowing these phases and what type of energy accompanies each one can help us harness and utilize her power to be wielded.
The new moon represents a fresh start, a fertile ground for planting seeds of intention. As the moon waxes towards fullness, our intentions gather momentum, allowing them to take shape and manifest in the physical realm.
The full moon serves as a time of culmination and release, a moment to celebrate our achievements and let go of anything no longer serving us. The waning moon then encourages us to reflect on our progress and release any negativity or resistance that may be hindering our goals.
She’s happy to help us with our goals and manifesting if we honor her cycles and ride along the flow of energy with her.
How to Manifest with the Moon:
- Set Intentions: During the new moon, identify your desires and write them down clearly and with intention. Visualize yourself achieving your goals and feeling the emotions associated with success.
- Take Action: Throughout the waxing moon phase, actively engage in habits and practices that support your intentions. Often times, this is inspired action that “pops up in the mind”. Once intentions are set, they remain at the actively engaged in the edges of the mind so you’ll naturally find yourself working on them without the effort of intending to.
- Sustain momentum: As the moon approaches full, take concrete steps towards achieving your goals. Utilize the increased energy of this phase to overcome obstacles and push through challenges.
- The full moon is a time for rest and reflection.
- Release and Clear: During the waning moon, release any negativity, doubt, clutter or unhelpful thought/thing holding you back. Express gratitude for what you have achieved and reflect on the lessons learned during the cycle.
- Repeat the Cycle: With each new moon, begin the cycle anew, setting fresh intentions and aligning them with the moon’s energy.
Living by the cycles of the moon is one of many ways to ride the natural flow of energy and life around us. Each moon cycle lasts about 28 days. Sound familiar, ladies? Many woman have synced their own 28 day cycle to that of the moon’s with little effort. But that’s a different blog post.
Manifesting with the moon transcends mere practicality; it is a journey of self-discovery and alignment with the natural rhythms of the universe. By observing the moon and its phases, we learn to read the language of the cosmos and integrate its wisdom into our lives. This practice fosters a deeper connection to the natural world and encourages us to live in harmony with its cyclical flow.
The moon’s energy is feminine, or passive and receptive, if you prefer. Each of her phases bringing more and different energies to help us to nurture, birth and grow.
By setting our intentions at the beginning of the cycle (the new moon) and nurturing them in the way the moon does with her changing phases, we can bring them into being more fluidly.
The New Moon
The new moon is the beginning of the cycle. This is when we set our intentions. Much like you would set goals at the beginning of the month.
- Energy: Fertile ground, fresh beginnings, potent seeds of intention.
- Focus: Plant the seeds of your desires with clarity and conviction. Write them down, visualize them vividly, and feel the emotions associated with their fulfillment.
- Activities: Meditation, journaling, setting goals, moon rituals, cleansing old energy, starting new projects.
- Intentions: New beginnings, love, career moves, creative endeavors, breaking habits.
Enhance the energy of the new moon by setting your intentions to the zodiac in which the moon is in. For example, this new moon (September 2018) is in Virgo. Setting intentions that align with Virgo are going to have the most power right now.
- What do you want to create?
- What changes do you want to make?
- What do you want to bring into being?
- Loyalty
- Honesty
- Analytical
- Practical
- Organized
- Helpful
- Independent
- Perfectionistic
- Knowledgeable

The more you sync yourself with the world around you, the more automatic it becomes. Towards the end of August, I decided to turn over a new leaf in September with how I was taking care of myself. My eating and exercising habits have been lacking since I had my daughter and I wasn’t comfortable in my body anymore. That’s when I made a habit tracker and started getting serious about food, yoga and other self care practices I wanted to focus more on. As a mom, it’s so easy to let our own needs fall to the wayside. It was only yesterday, as I sat to write my new moon forecast email that I realized I was already setting intentions with the Virgo energy of this moon cycle. Without even realizing it! The more in flow you intend to be, the more flow will find you. When we practice aligning ourselves with the world around us, our inner being, our guides, source and all of the magical workings in our universe conspire to bring us more of it, automatically. We initiate the work and then effortless flow carries us to what we desire as long as there’s no resistance. This Virgo new moon is going to help us set the pace for all of the structure and organization we need to settle into the new school year. Virgo is one of my favorite signs. Even though there’s zero in my chart, I relate to it extremely well with our similar detailed and type A nature. Virgo likes to fix things. They notice all the small details and desire all the knowledge to help them get things running smoothly. |
Intentions with this new moon will be best served with focuses around health, fixing that which is broken and helping others. Knowing this, it may be obvious to you what intentions you need to set this month.
If it’s not, close your eyes, take some deep breaths and ask your inner, higher self and/or your guides:
- Are there some health concerns you need to work on?
- Some lifestyle changes around health that need to be made?
- Details your missing that need attention?
- Is there someone that needs your help?
- Something broken in yours or someone’s life that needs fixing?
- Where and how can you be of service?
Don’t let the waning summer deter you from improving yourself and your health. Now’s not the time to start getting comfortable with your bad habits. This Virgo energy is the perfect time to initiate positive lifestyle changes that you want to see stick.
- By improving myself and my daily habits, I improve the world as a whole.
- I am in complete alignment with my true and higher being.
- Only that which aligns with who I truly am enters my life & all that doesn’t is released
Set your crystals outside or on a windowsill to clear.
Manifesting with The Phases of the Moon: Waxing Crescent
The waxing crescent is the second phase in the cycle. This is when you take action, preferably inspired action, towards your goals.
- Energy: Gentle growth, building momentum, nurturing your desires.
- Focus: Take inspired action, nourish your intentions with positive thoughts and affirmations.
- Activities: Creative expression, planning, taking small steps forward, visualizing success, gratitude practices.
- Intentions: Overcoming obstacles, building relationships, boosting confidence, attracting abundance, increasing energy.
Action towards your goals is great. Inspired action is unstoppable.
- What are you feeling led to do?
- What is inspiring you?
- What do you feel you NEED to do?
Create space around your intentions. Hold space for them to be worked on. We can’t find inspired action to make more money if we spend all of our time watching tv. We can’t find inspired action to exercise if we don’t turn our attention towards the topic at all.
- Type the subjects of your intentions into Pinterest and see if anything catches your attention.
- Meditate on your intentions. What actions pop up in your mind about them? Follow it.
- Talk about them with others. Does the conversation lead you to do anything?
The universe is creating things all around you, trying to get your attention and point you towards your path of least resistance. Practice mindfulness. Notice what’s going on around you and follow your “signs”.
First Quarter
The first quarter phase of the moon is the time to show the universe you’re serious about wanting your intentions to take hold and to manifest.
- Energy: Challenges, internal conflict, facing resistance.
- Focus: Address any doubts or anxieties that may arise. Identify and release blockages.
- Activities: Shadow work, journaling about fears, practicing self-compassion, seeking guidance from trusted sources.
- Intentions: Healing past wounds, releasing limiting beliefs, developing resilience, overcoming fears.
You’ve found your inspired action and followed it. Let the momentum grow. Practice it or add to it where appropriate.
This is when we breathe more life into it. It begins to take root and maybe start to look like something tangible. Water it. Stick with it.
Manifesting with The Phases of the Moon: Waxing Gibbous
The waxing gibbous is the next phase in the cycle. What we’ve planted has grown into something we can see, touch or feel, whether physically, mentally or energetically. It’s something real.
- Energy: Increased momentum, taking concrete steps, nearing manifestation.
- Focus: Stay focused and disciplined. Take decisive action and overcome procrastination.
- Activities: Completing tasks, decluttering, organizing, networking, practicing self-care.
- Intentions: Achieving goals, completing projects, attracting desired opportunities, strengthening partnerships.
We’ve been allowing the momentum of inspired action to carry us. Adding to that which we are building. That which we are wanting.
We’ve learned enough about it to see what is working for it, what isn’t, what we like about it, what we don’t. We know our feelings about the processes and the outcomes we’re getting from it, will get from it.
Now’s the time to refine it.
- What needs more attention?
- What parts aren’t working?
- Has it led us to something else?
- Are we still focused on the desired outcome?
- Have we become distracted?
- Does it need to be reworked? Rethought?
Follow your intuition. Your emotional guidance system. Follow what feels good, discard what feels bad but know the difference between bad and difficult.
Just because it may feel deterring doesn’t mean it’s bad. Example: Speaking in front of a crowd for the first time.
Know the difference between discomfort to progress and discomfort to let go of. Again: What is it that you are wanting? Will this lead you closer to it?
Trust the process.
Manifesting with The Phases of the Moon: Full Moon
Now your manifestations are blooming! The fruit of your labor is near!
- Energy: Culmination, release, celebration, letting go of negativity.
- Focus: Express gratitude for how far you’ve come. Release anything holding you back. Celebrate your achievements.
- Activities: Full moon rituals, journaling, self care, practicing forgiveness.
- Intentions: Forgiveness, gratitude, letting go of control, embracing abundance, celebrating wins.
The full moon is revealing. It shines light on all of the things we need to know in order to move forward and receive what it is we desire.
The moon is at it’s most powerful when full. This is when we do our rituals, spells and all other magical celebrations you may desire. We’re rejoicing in all of the work we’ve done!
The theme is “Cleansing”. Write down all of the things standing in between you and what it is you want. Burn the paper. We’re releasing them and their hold on us.
Take an epsom salt bath with herbs, oils and crystals. Relax into it and day dream about your desires coming into being.
- What does it feel like to have them?
- What do they look like? feel like? Smell like?
- What do you look like with the having of them?
- In what ways has having them changed your life?
You can Pinterest all sorts of full moon rituals. But the important thing is to release all that no longer serves you. All that is keeping you from progress. All toxic beliefs, habits, things, people and emotions. Focus on the wants, the desires, the excitement in the having of them and all of the good things to come.
Set your crystals out to be charged.
Manifesting with The Phases of the Moon: Waning Gibbous
The waning gibbous phase is when the fruit will begin to mature. We can begin to see tangible results from the habits we have created.
- Energy: Reflection, introspection, releasing what no longer serves you.
- Focus: Reflect on the lunar cycle and your progress. Release any negativity, doubt or unhelpful thing.
- Activities: Meditation, journaling, revisiting intentions, forgiveness rituals, spending time in nature.
- Intentions: Releasing, cleaning, letting go of attachments, clearing space for new beginnings.
We’re beginning to slow down now and create space for our manifestations to come into being. Self care and releasing are the themes. Refreshing and spacious. Opposite of the building and working we were doing leading up to the full moon. Now we’re allowing that which has been set into motion to carry it’s own momentum.
Enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Third Quarter/ Last Quarter
This is the time for rest. Your work this cycle is done. Take some breathers. There’s nothing left to do but enjoy what you’ve created.
- Energy: Letting go, completion, internal reflection, quiet power.
- Focus: Release any residual negativity or anxieties about your intentions. Reflect on the lessons learned and the progress made.
- Activities: Shadow work, journaling about remaining doubts, practicing acceptance and closure, tying up loose ends.
- Intentions: Healing past hurts, releasing final blocks, accepting what is, embracing change, making peace with unfinished chapters.
The last quarter moon brings a completion energy, similar to the full moon but with a more introspective and internal focus. It’s a time to tie up loose ends, release any lingering doubts or anxieties that may be attached to your intentions, and accept where things stand. This introspection can be uncomfortable, but it’s crucial for letting go and making space for new beginnings in the upcoming new moon cycle.
Imagine this phase like the final stage of a project. You’ve put in the hard work, experienced challenges, and learned valuable lessons. Now, it’s time to review your work, identify any final tweaks needed, and accept it as complete. This doesn’t mean giving up your dreams, but rather acknowledging the progress made and releasing any resistance to moving forward.
More self care is great. More meditation is great. Wrap up any loose ends.
Remember, the last quarter moon is a powerful time for inner transformation. By acknowledging what no longer serves you and releasing it with grace, you prepare yourself to plant new seeds of intention with the next new moon cycle, lighter and more grounded from the lessons learned.
Manifesting with The Phases of the Moon: Waning Crescent
The new moon is just around the corner. Now is when we begin thinking about what we want to focus on next moon cycle and clean up the remnants of this moon cycle.
- Energy: Resting, integrating experiences, preparing for the next cycle.
- Focus: Allow yourself time to rest and integrate the lessons learned. Trust the process.
- Activities: Spending time in nature, gentle movement, mindfulness practices, self-care rituals.
- Intentions: Integration, trust, resting, releasing expectations, honoring the cyclical nature of life.
Meditate on it. In which direction are you feeling called? What are your desires bringing to your attention? What could better your quality of life and state of being?
- Are we going to continue on with the intentions we’ve already set to grow them even more?
- Add something to them?
- Start on something completely different?
Do you have any moon rituals you’d like to share with us in the comments?!
