Mabon is the youngest of the sabbats. Whereas people have been celebrating the Autumn Equinox throughout civilization, Mabon specifically didn’t exist until the 1970’s.
However, the fact that it’s not ancient doesn’t take away from the magic.
In fact, the solidification of Mabon into a sabbat proves that this time is so magical that it stole the hearts of modern right brained (woo)man.
So Mabon is also known as the Autumn (or fall) equinox or the 2nd harvest festival. Usually occurring on or around September 20th with the first day of fall, with some variation due to the natural movements of the planet.
This is when day and night are both of equal amounts light and dark. The days have been getting shorter since the summer solstice and this is the halfway mark until peak darkness at the winter solstice.
Crops are now ready to be harvested and stored for the winter.
Mabon Aspects
As always, the best way aspects are the ones you find for yourself by exploring your own local nature.
- What’s blooming?
- What’s producing fruit?
- What’s going to seed?
- What is the weather like?
- What is the energy in the air like?
- What colors are you seeing?
No one is going to interpret the world in the same way you do and that cultivation of these personal and spiritual practices is what really gives them their magick.
If you would like some generic correspondences, though, here’s a list for those as well:
- Cornucopia
- Equality
- Gratitude
- Abundance
- Success
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Gold
I would love for you to tell us what you associate with this time of year if it’s different that the above! Drop it in the comments at the bottom of the page or join us in the FB group and tell us there.

Mabon Journaling
A gratitude journal is great to start right now! See if you can keep it up and going every day for the whole year! That sounds tantalizing even typing but 3 bullet points a day with one word correlations that only you understand in this moment is plenty.
What does equality mean to you? The day and night are of equal lengths right now. The balance of yin and yang. What are the emotions coming up around that?
The days are getting shorter from here until Yule. It’s time to embrace the darkness, as there is no light without it’s counterpart. Have you been doing your shadow work? Have you been preparing for seasonal anxiety and depression? What thoughts are coming up? Write about it.
If you have anything to add, drop it in the comments! Together we grow. Mabon blessings!
