Litha (also called Mid-Summer) is the celebration of the Summer solstice. The longest day and the shortest night of the year. It’s a time of abundance and gratitude for what we have with the recognition that things will soon begin to wein.
From here on out, the days will begin to become shorter and the darkness will creep more and more in, lengthening our nights for the 2nd half of the year.
We celebrate the light while we have it, whilst knowing that we must begin preparing for the coming of winter.
Generally falling between the 20th and 23rd of June with some variation depending on the natural rotation and orbit of the earth (as the longest day and shortest night doesn’t always fall on the same day every year). It was a celebration that often lasted several days!
Can you imagine a 4 day long celebration full of fun, food, friends and family? I really vote for bringing these things back into style.
Celebrating Litha has some traditions but it’s important to note that these festivities are about getting in tune and connecting with the world around you and your place in it. Take the below aspects as loose guidelines rather than concrete rules.
Truly connecting means exploring your own natural surroundings and finding your own meaning and magick in them. Not only are we all beautifully unique, but we’re all going to have different variations on our environment.
You’re the magickal one here. Aspects and correlations are here to help guide you to your own inner knowing. Tools to point you in a direction of focus. Make it your own.

Litha Foods
Really enjoy the freshness of everything around you. Food is growing in the gardens now and we no longer have to survive off of the winter stores. Thank a farmer and eat locally grown whole foods!
Anything seasonal right now is perfect. Other things you can do is make Litha bread and/or cookies utilizing all of the herbs or edible flowers around you. (Please do your research and be sure you know what is safe and what is not. Never just start eating whatever you find outside.)
Litha Affirmations
- I connect with the energy around me.
- I am provided with everything I need.
- I flow with the seasons.
- I waste not, want not.
- I seek opportunities fearlessly.
- I prepare for the future while celebrating the now.
Use this energy to connect to the aspects above. Especially gratitude, abundance, success and the like. Right now we’re doing the mental and energy work to heal our false believes and trauma around these aspects so that we can move forward lighter, happier and more vibrant.
What mantras speak to you? Use the above as examples and then create your own!

Solar Plexus Chakra
Since this is a fire festival associated with the celebration of the sun, it makes it a great time to connect with your solar plexus chakra!
Sit and meditate with it. Get to know it. Ask it if it needs healing in any way. You can learn more about the Solar Plexus Chakra here.
I didn’t cover EVERYTHING Litha has to offer here. There’s faerie lore associated with it as well as the horned god and goddess. There’s an epic battle that goes along with this, a migration and lots of fun things.
If you’re interested in those, a simple YouTube search for Litha will not let you down. I, however, cover things more of a healing nature and leave the extra fun to those more knowledgeable in the aspects and stories.
