Whether you’re stuck in the middle of a crowd or at home alone just dealing with some life stuff, knowing how to create sacred space can help you find peace in even the most frantic of situations.
Creating sacred space is a habit you should be trying to cultivate. Especially if you have anxiety. It can be invaluable to calming your mind, body and spirit when things seem overwhelming and stressful.
There are several practices you can adopt that will allow you to create sacred space in your life. Both physical and metaphysical. I recommend them all, used regularly. Not only for battling anxiety and lowering stress but also to ground and protect yourself from outside influences of negative energy. This is your safe place.
Physical Sacred Space
Creating physical sacred space means finding a spot in this world, probably in your home or yard although you can have one at work or in your local park if you like. In your home or yard, though, is probably going to give you more freedom to do things with it.
Start by blessing and cleansing the space. You can do this however you feel called to. Some people love smudging with sage to cleanse and this is effective but you can also just do it through intention. Bless it by saying a little prayer of gratitude and intention.
Something as simple as “I bless this place. Thank you for offering up your protection” is sufficient or you can get super elaborate and extra with it. Whatever you like. Have fun with it.
Next, you want to bring in some things that charge it with positive energy. I like plants, salt lamps and crystals but it may look like something different for you.
If you can, you do want to set up a crystal grid in the room. Place them around the edges of the room. On or above windows, above door frames, on shelves, etc so that there is a clear line of energy from the point of one to the point of another. Preferably so that no matter where you are in the room, you’re within this grid.
Use protective stones if you can like onyx, smokey quartz, selenite or garnet if you can but any stone will do. Make sure you clear and charge them with your intentions for the space.
Metaphysical Sacred Space
You can create sacred space no matter where you are, no matter what you have. Remember, tools receive their power from you. To create sacred space without anything, all you have to do is visualize it.
Close your eyes and take a couple of slow, deep breaths. Relax all of the muscles in your body and imagine a bubble around you. Push the bubble out from you, giving yourself as much space to breathe as you’d like. You can imagine it as impenetrable and safe. Bless it if you like and give it a purpose. Tell it to come with you throughout your day, protecting you and serving you every where you go.
You can also imagine a tornado around you with you at the center, or a shiny shield like a second skin. Whatever calls to you or feels right. The beautiful thing about these practices is they can be however you feel and look like whatever you can imagine.
