I recently had the honor of speaking with Elisabeth Donatella of The Found Family Podcast in an episode about finding your confidence despite anxiety. We had a great and inspiring conversation and covered several actionable exercises you can do to live your best life regardless of anxiety!
Gaining Confidence Despite Anxiety Episode Highlights
Anxiety made it hard for me to live. It was suffocating me. I knew that if I wanted to accomplish my goals, I had to get through it. So in the episode I cover all of the things I did and tried in an effort to rid myself of anxiety.
This led to the realization that most people deal with this in some form or fashion. I had always thought I was so alone in my anxiety battles but that by far wasn’t the case. As I learned how to live my life more and more everyday despite my anxiety, I began to desire to help people heal like I did. No one should have to suffer in silence alone. I know that world and it’s not a good place to be.
Elisabeth and I both share personal stories of our anxiety keeping us from participating in life.
What Causes Anxiety & Where do you begin in fighting it?
We explore the causes and triggers of anxiety. There can be many and I’ve had pretty much all the flavors. None taste good. Bullying, trauma and soy have been some of my main triggers, personally, so we discuss that.
Different forms of anxiety:
- Allergy based
- Toxin based
- Postpartum
- Trauma
- Hormonal
Know that as long as there are things you haven’t tried, there is still hope to cure your anxiety. I didn’t think it was possible to cure until I did.
Get to know your brand of anxiety and learn to flow with it instead of fighting against it. Struggling against it will only make things harder and feed the panic attacks. Surrendering to them will ease the ride. Know that it’s just a feeling and can’t hurt you. It’ll pass in a moment.
How to Identify Your Type of Anxiety
Unless we identify what kind of anxiety we’re dealing with, we’re just throwing spaghetti noodles at the wall and seeing what sticks as far as treating it.
To figure out exactly what’s causing yours, take some notes and analyze it.
- When did it start?
- What are your triggers?
- Notice patterns with mindfulness or an anxiety journal.
If you can’t identify any links or patterns, explore allergy or toxin based anxiety by switching your eating habits and minimizing toxins in your environment and personal products.
Learning to Work With Your Anxiety
I didn’t believe it was possible to get rid of my anxiety. I had tried all of the things and the most I could come close to was learning how to live in spite of it. Know, though, that you have to believe there’s hope if you’re going to achieve it. It starts in the mind.
Mindset work can take you miles in progress. Healing traumas that left you in this situation in the first place. Finding affirmations that help you and talking yourself through it. Pushing yourself past your boundaries and refusing to give up.
I realized that no one likes to do videos or get out there and do the things or be the one everyone looks at. But I also knew someone needed to, had to, for the good of the world and chose to make the conscious decision to share my knowledge despite also not wanting to do the things.

Getting started is the hardest part of anything. Just do it.
People think I have all of the confidence in the world because I’m a confidence coach but it’s not the case. You teach that which you need the most. That’s how I know you can do it. Because I can do it.
