How to figure out what Dad may like for Father’s Day
Every dad is different. Something that one may love another would curl their lips back at. Think about who your Dad is as a person.
- What does he enjoy?
- What is he good at?
- What sort of topics interest him?
- What have you heard him say he’d like to do? Learn? Be?
- What do his dreams look like?
My Dad is a history buff. He loves all things military and past wars are his favorite subject. He likes to pretend he is a marine but he’s never been in any service. He likes to hunt, fish and camp.
But only for survival, food and relaxation. Never for sport. He’s the out doorsy type. He’s a sports addict and keeps up with politics. He dreams of owning a big farm in Tennessee. He has chickens and gardens year around. He’s particularly proud of his blueberry bushes, grape vines and peach trees.
My sister and I have gone halfsies on a DNA kit for him to learn his ancestry (listed below). He eats stuff like that up. He’s one of the particularly easier people in my life to buy for since he embraces what he enjoys and allows his interests to be openly who he is. Gosh he’s great. He and I share an interest in a lot of stuff.
If you’re not sure of what to get yours, asking him the above questions can help you figure it out without giving anything away. If you can’t answer them on your own, ask him. Tell him it’s for a project of some sort or that you and a friend were talking about it the other day or you saw a YouTube video or pretend you’re doing an online survey. Get creative.
23 and Me
23 and Me is a company you can order a DNA kit from. Just take the kit, collect some saliva and send the samples back in. They’ll run your DNA from it and send you the results. There are two different kits you can choose from.
The basic ancestry kit will get you results on your ancestry; 5 reports including:
- Ancestry composition,
- Maternal and Paternal Haplogroups,
- Neanderthal Ancestry,
- Your DNA family
- DNA relative finder
- + Raw data based on your results
The Health + Ancestry kit:
- All of the above +
- Genetic health risk reports
- Carrier status reports
- Wellness reports
- Traits reports
It’s a great interest piece if you’ve ever wondered exactly where your roots stem from and a great wellness kit if you don’t know what health risks run in your family or if you want to know how to take care of yourself. This is what we got my Dad this year.
Mindful Apparel
Chance are, Dad’s getting all of his clothes from the local fast fashion joint. This is troublesome in many ways from health to humanity to planet. We’re not going to get into the issues with fast fashion in this post, but battling the fast fashion issue starts with voting with our money. I.e. purchasing our clothes from positive impact fashion companies.
I get most of my clothes from Pact. They’re all organic and ethical and have some great quality clothes all handmade by people earning fair wages. They’re very minimalistic and basic and have some great men’s clothes. Their prices are also super reasonable and they’re always running sales!
Online Courses
Online courses can be life changing. With the world at our finger tips through the internet, we can now learn anything we want! A universe of opportunities are open for us this way. Tailor it to your Dad!
Better Personal Products
Most of our personal products are filled with 100% toxic chemicals and fragrances. Everything from our toothpaste to our lotions are slowly poisoning us and causing us to become sick and cancerous.
DoTERRA offers a wide arrange of these products that aren’t only nontoxic and all natural, but they smell great and have tons of underlying health benefits. Take advantage of this holiday and replace some of Dad’s products with counterparts that are beneficial to his health. Some examples available are:
- On Guard toothpaste
- Deep Blue Rub (for achy muscles and joints)
- DoTERRA refreshing body wash
- Balance Blend makes a very attractive and masculine cologne with emotional benefits
Find them all here under ‘Products’
There’s also this limited time offer (pictured below) for Father’s day. It contains Amavi after shave, Onyx Bath bar and Amavi Touch roller ball which is an appealing cologne that contains not only the Balance blend I mentioned above but also oils from buddha wood, Hinoki and Litsea. It’s all cleaning, hydrating and soothing to the skin with a beautifully universally appealing aroma he’ll love as well as you and Mom!
Instead of gifting more stuff that none of us needs, try to find meaningful gifts that can bring progress, health and healing to our loved ones lives. Not things that are going to collect on a shelf or get stuck in a drawer, collecting dust and unused.
Don’t forget though, some of the best gifts are free. Spend some time with him. Suggest ya’ll go do something together. Sit and have a conversation with him. Be interested in his old stories and ideas about life. Ask him to teach you something. If you have a Dad who’s there and loves you, you’re one of the luckiest people around. Not everyone has the luxury. Appreciate and embrace him.
Best Vibes Always,
S.S.Blake
